Kate Chopin, born Katherine O’Flaherty (1850 –
1904), was an American author of short stories and novels. She is considered as
a feminist author of the 20th century.
“Regret” is written by Kate Chopin. The story was first published in Chopin’s
“A Night in Acadia”. “Regret” is a story of a woman who lives alone on a farm.

In her short story "Regret" Kate Chopin depicts about a woman named
as Mamzelle Aurelie. She
had perfect posture and rosy cheeks. She wore man’s hat and used blue army coat
during the cold season. She was simple and never been in love. When she was 20
years old, she had received proposal but she denied it. She didn’t regret it
when she was 50 years old. She only lived with her dog named Ponto and Negroes
lived in her cabin. She had also a farm that had fowls, cows, etc.
There was her neighbor
named Odile who had four children (Elodie, Ti Nomme, Marceline and Marcelette).
Odile asked Mamzelle to take care of her kids until she came back. Mamzelle did think deeply
about the children. Because of a dangerous illness of her mother,
the young neighbour has to leave and couldn’t take care of her children
anymore.
